Dear Ace:                      May 1, 2006

This time I am writing on behalf of the women of our website and beyond because people from all over, including other fansites, donated to this gift.

A few weeks ago, when planning for your ‘weekly gift’, we decided that a charitable donation -in your name- might be a more meaningful gift than flowers or food (both of which we had already sent). We had all read that you sing at a children’s hospital every Christmas, so that seemed the logical charity. We started tossing the idea around on our website, and Youngblood, who posts on our forum, immediately responded with confirmation that the hospital where you sing is in fact TCH Denver, and he also put us in touch with Kathleen. Kathleen has been in continuous contact with me ever since my first phone call to her, and she has been invaluable in streamlining and legitimizing this project. (And here I think I should point out that even though I say that I have been in contact with Kathleen the whole project has been a group effort. I am merely the money-collector.)

From $7161.00 to $7,777.77

Over a two week period, the Highrollers raised $7161.00 to donate in Ace’s name, and this letter and check were sent to Children’s.  An anonymous donor, hearing the story of how Ace felt that the number 7 was lucky for Colorado, donated $616.77 – to bring our total to $7.777.77!!!

I thought that maybe we would raise $500. But my husband, who is a professional fund-raiser, advised me to set a goal higher than what I thought we could achieve. So on Easter Sunday I set a goal of $1000.00.

Ace, we passed $1000 in less than 24 hours. THAT’S how much your fans care about you, and about giving to a cause dear to your heart. When you left the show on Wednesday the 19th we were over $2000. Once people realized that this would, sadly, be our last weekly gift to you, we started getting even more donations. And once you mentioned the fund in your exit interviews (thank you!), the money really started coming in.

On Friday 4-28 we were at about $6000. Since you have stated that the number 7 is good for Colorado, we created the Ace Young Lucky Number 7 Three-Day Challenge to try to get to $7000.00 by the end of the weekend (knowing that I would be sending the check to Kathleen on Monday 5-1). And we made it. And then we passed $7000! People have been so so generous, it amazes me. (And they have been amazingly trusting as well, because they have sent $7000 to me someone they have never met.)

The money for this fund comes from all over the country, and even all over the world. It comes from the women of our website, and people from other fansites, and even people who don’t post at fansites at all, but who heard about this project and wanted to be a part of it. It comes from people of all ages, from kids giving up their allowances, to teenagers, to young women and men, to mature married women with children who are your age.

It is on behalf of all of these generous fans that I am so pleased and proud to present, in your name, a check for The Children’s Hospital of Denver in the amount of $7161.00.

With all our love, respect, and hopes for your continued success........
